Dimethyl Sulfoxide ( DMSO ) is a simple small molecule with amazing chemical, chemical, biological and physical characteristics which has not received the coverage it is due. DMSO is the resulting by-product from the manufacturing of pulp and paper. It resembles mineral oil, but with a ordor somewhat like garlic. It has been used for over forty years The basic medical properties are: it is a rapidly absorbed skin penetrant, with the ability to carry other substances through membranes it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent it is a cryoprotective agent, protecting frozen tissue it is a potent anti-oxidant, scavenging the highly reactive molecules that contribute to disease and aging, known as free radicals. It has been found that medications dissolved in DMSO retain their therapeutic activity and their specific properties over a longer period of time. It maintains and multiplies the activity of many drugs. Allergic reactions are diminished by the actions of DMSO. Other properties are: • reduces pain and swelling • acts as an anti-oxidant • forms a water molecule in the body which is easily excreted • acts as a free radical scavenger • reduces arthritis pain and swelling, helps carpal tunnel • used for cystitis • used for brain and spinal cord injuries in Europe • a legal drug which can be used orally, topically and intravenously • biggest drawback is the odor which can be dissipated with aloe and mint flavor • used for insect bites, acne, neuritis, neuralgia and shingles
