Aloe has been used since 2200 B.C. It has most notably been used in cosmetics, but its most beneficial qualities may have yet to be noticed by the medical community. To date, 140 substances have been found in the whole leaf. Six of the chemicals have antiseptic properties, 23 polypeptides (protein-like substances) have been found that have anti- tumor and cancer properties and three anti-inflammatory agents have been isolated. In 1994 the chemicals from the leaf were approved for use in veterinary medicine for "blasting" tumors like those found in humans. It has been used in veterinary medicine for treating viruses similar to those found in AIDS with great success. So why have you not heard about these uses for Aloe? Well, I think by now you know the answer. There are so many uses for the plants and herbs and roots found in the world that if they were all published the drug companies would go out of business and this would effect the economy of the whole world. It is estimated that there are tens of thousands of chemicals to be discovered in the rain forests of the world. And, of the tens of thousands, thousands have curative medical properties and the pharmaceutical companies are fighting to control the findings so they can patent the discoveries and the profits. |
